A notably ripe yet still cool, fresh and elegant nose speaks of stone and menthol hints to the spiced plum aromas. The rich, serious and densely textured middle weight flavors are blessed with seemingly endless reserves of sap that render the very firm tannic spine to the background on the explosive, austere and hugely long finish. This is not refined in the inimitable fashion of a classic Taillepieds but I sense that it will become so in time. This breathtaking effort will require a plenitude of patience though and it is one of the few wines in the range that will probably not drink well in its youth.
A very ripe nose sidles up to the edge of being surmature yet does not quite fall over the edge although there are aromas of coffee, mocha and plum liqueur. The dusty, powerful and intensely mineral-driven large-scaled flavors brim with buckets of dry extract, all wrapped in a palate staining finish of stunning length where there is a slight touch of warmth. This very firmly structured wine is ripe to the point that it will divide collectors as some will love it and others will find it to be too ripe. I stress though that this is a balanced effort and just a question of how ripe is too ripe.
A very ripe, floral, refined and dazzlingly spicy black fruit nose introduces pure, detailed and almost aggressively mineral-infused flavors that possess a beautiful mouth feel while culminating in an explosive and overtly austere finish that borders on the painfully intense. This poised and harmonious effort will need every bit of 15 years to arrive at its full majority but it should be well worth the wait.
In contrast to the expressiveness of many wines in the range, this is restrained to the point of reticence though aggressive swirling liberating grudging aromas of black fruit, wet stone and lovely floral notes. The dense, powerful and tautly muscular medium-bodied flavors ooze a fine extract that confers a textured and almost chewy mouth feel to the fantastically long and explosive finish. This wonderfully impressive effort is built for the long haul and about the only nit is a subtle touch of warmth that doesn't detract significantly from the sense of harmony. A real stunner of a Roncerets and highly recommended if you have the requisite patience.
A highly floral and spicy nose of elegant and ripe red pinot fruit and earth nuances that transfer over to the complex, intense, powerful and mineral-driven medium weight plus flavors that possess excellent detail and ample tannin-buffering extract on the superbly persistent and firmly structured finish. This should amply reward long-term cellaring and overall, this is a Pommard that combines power with finesse. In a word, terrific.
