Hæder til Bodegas Mauro

Mariano Garcia anerkendes af mange som Spaniens mest talentfulde vinmager. Med en fortid hos Vega Sicilia, medejerskab af Bodegas Aalto og konsulterende ønolog for blandt andet Bodegas Astrales og San Roman er hans viden omkring vinavl ganske unik.

Vinene fra Garcia-familiens egen vingård er imidlertid ofte de, som får mest opmærksomhed. Senest har både Wine Advocate og Wine Spectator bedømt husets to top-vine med følgende kommentarer:

The saturated purple 2004 V.S. delivers a sensational, nearly ethereal perfume of pain grille, pencil lead, mineral, espresso, and kinky wild blueberry. This leads to a large-scaled but light on its feet, structured wine with layers of blue and black fruit, spice box, incense, and enough ripe tannin to evolve for 4-6 years. Drink this lengthy, pleasure-bent effort from 2014 to 2029.

This powerful red is a bit subdued now, but there’s real depth, with black plum, cola, mineral and tar. The lively fruit and lavish oak give this a modern character, but it has elegance and intensity as well. Muscular tannins are well-integrated. Fresh and long. Drink now through 2014.

This inky dark red is packed with ripe blackberry and boysenberry fruit, framed by toast and chocolate oak flavours, and supported by muscular tannins. Yet this remains balanced, lively and even graceful.

The 2004 Terreus, a wine made only in top vintages (2004 certainly qualifies), is taken from a single vineyard of old vine Tempranillo. It has a complex nose of toasty oak, mineral, violets, incense, blackberry, and black cherry that leaps from the glass. Thick, rich, and opulent, this powerful yet suave offering will benefit from 4-6 years of additional bottle age and drink well through 2034. This is an impressive set of wines.
