Fantastisk vin fra Bordeaux-ikonet Château Latour i den forrygende årgang 2020.
Det kræver sin tålmodighed at vente på de allerstørste vine fra Bordeaux. Den skal gerne ligge i mange, mange år, og nogle gange kan man godt bare ønske sig en vin, der er klar til at blive drukket med det samme. Sådan én har Château Latour heldigvis skabt siden 1989, hvor tredjevinen Pauillac de Latour blev introduceret.
Sammenlignet med de store prestigevine fra Latour, er andelen af Merlot-druer højere i denne, og de kommer dels fra nogle af de parceller, der ikke finder vej til de ekstravagante topvine, og dels fra nogle af de overskydende druer fra produktionen af den mægtige Les Forts de Latour.
I denne flotte 2020 udgave består vinen af af 53 % Merlot, 43 % Cabernet Sauvignon, og 4% Petit Verdot. Den åbner sig flot op med en imponerende duft af modne, mørke bær, som nærmest eksploderer op i næsen på en. Det er intenst og elegant på samme tid, og man fornemmer tydeligt, at der ligger et helt utroligt håndværk bagved.
Pauillac de Latour lagrer på omkring 20 procent nye barriques, mens de resterende 80% er let brugte. Det giver en let fyldig og rank vin med fin mineralitet, god koncentration af mørke bær og indslag af både chokolade, lakrids, tobak og mint. Storslået kvalitet fra et af verdens bedste og mest berømte vinhuse.
James Suckling - 94
Very fruity with crushed raspberries, flowers, slate, graphite and light white pepper. Cumin and spice with air. It’s medium-bodied with light and delicate tannins and a fresh finish. Delicious already but will age nicely. Drink or hold.
Decanter - 93
Soft, delicate aromatics on the nose which is fragrant and appealing. Gentle roses, cherries and strawberries. Searing and bright, this is touching on severe, that bite and crispness you get with high acidity and lively red fruits but soft and chalky too alongside a wet-stone grip. A touch of spice in the background. Feels complete and detailed, still super-youthful and tense, it’s strict and taut in the mouth, but has appealing aromatics and floral scents that fill the frame while the fruit stays in the middle. Succulent and mouthwatering.
Vinous - 92
The 2020 Pauillac de Latour is similar to the bottle tasted blind at the Southwold tasting the previous January. Scents of black fruit and graphite emerge on the nose, still with that touch of melted road tar. The palate is medium-bodied with blackberry and blueberry fruit, perhaps leaning more toward the former with a tad of strictness on the finish. If there is a better Troisième Vin than this, I've yet to taste it.
Jeb Dunnuck - 92
Looking at the three releases from Château Latour, these are all powerful, concentrated, wines that are going to age gracefully. Starting with the 2020 Pauillac, it has ample cassis and darker fruits as well as attractively perfumed aromatics of violets, graphite, and some obvious minerality. Medium to full-bodied and beautifully balanced, with fine tannins, it's a legit Pauillac to drink over the coming 15+ years.
