Storladen og kompleks australsk Chardonnay, der giver Bourgogne kamp til stregen!
Chardonnay laves efterhånden i det meste af verden, men de mest berømte udtryk findes dog fortsat i Bourgogne, Californien og New Zealand. Med Cloudburst Chardonnay kan man roligt tilføje Australien til listen, for her er tale om hvidvin i absolut verdensklasse.
Bag vinene står New Yorkeren Will Berliner, der, sammen med sin kone, dyrker vin på beskedne 1,25 hektar på deres store landområde i Margaret River i det vestlige Australien. Der arbejdes efter biodynamiske principper, og vinene herfra har en fantastisk renhed og energi.
Deres Chardonnay står blandt de ypperste hvidvine fra Australien og blander sig snildt med de store hvidvine fra både Californien og Bourgogne rent kvalitetsmæssigt.
Kompleks duft med citrus, abrikos, fersken, mandler og tærtedej. Teksturen er rund og silkeblød og cremet, med en flot afslutning med balancerende syre. I eftersmagen oplever man noter af grapefrugt, let kanel og røg. Vinen har lagret 11 måneder i franske egetræsfade.

James Suckling - 97
The balance and depth to this is fantastic! Medium to full body with a density and phenolic tension that is wonderfully integrated and creates a harmonious and rather sophisticated palate. Some salted caramel to the cooked apple and light mango flavors. It’s stays with you but it’s the center palate that impresses. Creamy texture. Drink or hold. Screw cap.
Decanter - 97
Quite a herbal fragrance and scented nose, toasted bread, dried herbs, salted crackers, chamomile, white flowers and dried lemon peel. Fresh and forward on the palate, this has a crystalline purity to the lemon and lime fruit – so clean, precise and well worked – but with a buttery element that gives weight and texture to the palate while the acidity keeps things lifted and the spice drives from start to finish. Feels a little constricted at the moment, not overly friendly, more serious and knitted – gourmet – but there’s appealing minerality on the final flavour, salty stones and white pepper. A great wine from Will Berliner from 1.25 hectares farmed biodynamically in Margaret River.

Gloriously beautiful Chardonnay, lemon, fig, sage and lightly spiced pear. This is singing, powerful, nuanced, balanced, salt-scraping flinty minerality, so so good. Winemaker Will Berliner, 1.25ha of biodynamically-farmed vines giving tiny quantities, fermented with wild yeasts.
The Wine Independent - 96
The 2021 Chardonnay offers up vibrant notes of white peaches, fresh pears, and orange blossom leading to suggestions of almond croissant, struck flint, and cedar. The medium-bodied palate is energetic and vibrant, with a well-knit line of racy acidity and long, minerally finish.
