Morey Saint Denis er for mange et måske lidt overset område i Bourgogne, hvor de nærliggende Gevrey-Chambertin og Chambolle-Musigny løber med det meste af opmærksomheden. Kvaliteten kan derimod sagtens være fuldt ud på omgangshøjde som her, hvor Domaine Taupenot-Merme har skabt en fortryllende 1. Cru fra La Riotte marken i selve hjertet af Morey Saint Denis.
Vinen byder sig til med en sand bærsymfoni i duft såvel som i smag, med en silkeblød tekstur og fine og elegante tanniner. En lang og mild krydret eftersmag afrunder denne fortræffelige vin fra en af Bourgognes sande håndværksmestre.
Vinous - 91-93
The 2023 Morey-Saint-Denis La Riotte 1er Cru has a charming bouquet of brambly red berry fruit, raspberry, wild strawberry and a touch of orange pith. The palate is medium-bodied with good tension and finely spun tannins. Quite Chambolle-like and linear in style, this La Riotte is only a whisker away from the previous vintage.
Jasper Morris - Inside Burgundy - 92-94
Deeper in colour with a smooth ripe raspberry fruit that has retained tension. There is plenty of energy here, and it is very well put together with a firm persistence in the fruit. Compact yet with quite a volume of fruit, more linear than the other two. Drink from 2030-2036. Tasted Nov 2024.
Allan Meadows - Burghound - 90-92
A very pretty, even perfumed, nose freely displays its aromas of plum, dark cherry and crushed anise. The succulent, delicious and nicely textured medium weight flavors possess a caressing mouthfeel that contrasts noticeably with the firm and slightly chewy if still solidly persistent finale.
Decanter - 93
The premier cru La Riotte from Taupenot-Merme boasts mulberry fruit aromas with hints of spice and violets. The structure is firm and tannic, more muscular but less refined than some in this cellar. The grapes come from a 0.56 hectare parcel with similar soil to what is found in Mazoyères, with just 40–50 cm of clay and then directly into Comblanchien and Premeaux limestone. This wine will open in three to five years and hold for another 20.
