One third of the vines date back to 1924. Not especially deep in colour, just a mite darker than the Beaux Monts, but thrilling on the nose. Here the whole bunch spice is just an additional factor, and does not take over. Raspberry and cherry, very little strawberry, spice behind, but a complete and complex whole. Velvet in texture, with a fine tensile strength, and gloriously persistent. Drink from 2032-2040. Tasted Nov 2023.

The 2022 Nuits Saint-Georges La Richemone 1er Cru comprises 10 barrels this year, 60% whole bunches. Compared to the Les Beaux Monts, this incorporates the whole bunches more adeptly with a beautiful bouquet of perfumed red fruit, briar and wilted roses. The medium-bodied palate has a spicy entry, a fine bead of acidity, and impressive weight with a long yet tender finish. This shades the Vosne-Romanée this year.
