For PS Aalto er lig med lag på lag af koncentreret, mørk og sødmefuld frugt. En på alle måder dybt imponerende vin.
Måske har du allerede smagt den "normale" Aalto og tænkt "det bliver ikke bedre end det her" - men det gør det! PS står for Pagos Seleccionados – udvalgte marker – og indikerer at vinen er fremstillet af druer fra de ældste vinstokke på de bedste marker. Rygraden i vinen er druer fra op til 90 år gamle vinstokke på en skråning ved byen La Horra, ikke langt fra Pingus’ marker. Vinen lagret 20 måneder i nye, franske egetræsfade.
Vinen er nærmest blæksort vin i glasset. Frisk, frugtig duft af blåbær, brombær og mørke blommer med tydelige fadnoter og et strejf af chokolade. Smagen er opulent og åbenbarer lag af brombær, blommelikør, lakrids, vanilje, krydderier, kaffebønner og tobak. En kæmpe vin, som stadig er i sin vorden. Struktureret, nuanceret og kompleks. PS Aalto er og forbliver en kæmpe oplevelse!
James Suckling - 96
A rich, deep and complex nose with plenty of wood spices, dark chocolate, fresh blackberries, violets and a touch of graphite. The highlight on the full-bodied palate is the quality and quantity of the tannins, which are massive but polished and dissolved. Really firm and long. Better from 2026, when the wood spices settle more.
Falstaff Magazin - 96
Very dark ruby, purple reflections. Noble, dark fruit (plum and black cherry), cloves, some tobacco and mineral, smoky nuances. Intense and broad on the palate with plenty of fruit and ripe acidity. Noticeable, ripe, polished tannins. Shows a beautiful juiciness in the long finish. Good ageing potential.
Robert Parker - 94
There's always a little bit more of everything in the PS compared with the regular Aalto. The 2022 PS, cropped from a very warm and dry year, is not only more powerful and tannic but also more balanced and elegant, in that Castilian rustic way. It comes in at 15% alcohol and packs a punch; it's generously oaked (it spent 20 months in new French oak barrels), creamy, toasty and smoky and leaves a dry, chalky sensation in the finish. This is very much for the fans of the style. It's powerful and concentrated with abundant oak. 35,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in September 2024.
Vinous - 96
The 2022 PS, from Quintanilla de Arriba in Valladolid, Ribera del Duero, is defined by its oak aging. Coconut, vanilla, cedar and balsamic notes dominate the nose, joined by precise plum and herbal nuances. The palate is plush and creamy, with polished, worked tannins. It delivers layered fruit and oak. A modern classic for the region, marrying power with poise.
Jeb Dunnuck - 98
The winery’s top wine, the 2022 was first made in 2000 and is 100% Tempranillo/Tinto Fino. Powerfully built, yet elegant, it combines old-vine grapes planted 60 to 90 years ago from a selection of villages: La Horra-Roa, a hilly area with shallow slopes and reddish-brown soils, and La Aguilera, full of calcareous stone. Together, they offer this contrast of grace and intensity etched in tart red fruit, sweet vanilla, and remarkably refined tannins.
Decanter - 94
Very perfumed, with aromas of black forest fruit, candied cherries, chocolate and coffee beans. Powdery tannins frame the palate, with its intense black cherry fruit at the core. The finish is long and savoury. Luscious and youthful, this will benefit from a few more years in bottle.
