Francois-Xavier Borie har i mange år stået i spidsen for både Grand-Puy-Lacoste og Haut-Batailley i Pauillac. Grand-Puy-Lacoste ejer han - Haut-Batailley tilhører hans tante, Francoise des Brest-Borie. Eller rettere tilhørte, for i 2017 blev ejendommen overtaget af Jean-Charles Cazes fra Lynch-Bages. Francois-Xavier Borie ville også gerne have købt det slot, han selv har ledet siden midten af 1990’erne, men sådan skulle det altså ikke gå.
Ejendommen var oprindelig en del af Château Batailley, men den blev delt i to efter en arvesag i 1942, og Francois-Xaviers farfar Francois fik den mindste andel, som siden blev til Haut-Batailley. Begge beholdt deres 5. cru klassifikation. Det lykkedes dog Francois Borie at udvide besiddelserne til de nuværende 22 ha gennem opkøb af jord fra Duhart-Milon. Et decideret slot er der dog aldrig opført, og op til 1970’erne blev vinene produceret på Ducru-Beaucaillou, som også ejes af Borie-familien.
2006 gennemgik ejendommen en større renovering - primært af produktionsfaciliteterne og kælderen - hvilket gjorde det muligt at vinificere druerne fra hver enkelt parcel separat. Det har haft stor betydning for vinens kvalitet.
Château Haut-Batailley er beplantet med 70 pct. cabernet sauvignon, 25 pct. merlot og resten cabernet franc. Druerne vinificeres i temperaturkontrollerede ståltanke og efterfølgende i store fade. Vinen lagres herefter i op til 20 måneder i barriques, hvoraf 40 pct. er nye.
En mellemfyldig, mineralsk og elegant rødvin med ekspressive aromaer af mørke bær, granatæble og indkogt appelsin og et hint af cigarkasse og tørret anis.

James Suckling - 95
There’s a very attractive palate to this, showing lead pencil, blackcurrants and granite. Hints of herbs and tobacco. Medium- to full-bodied with creamy tannins and a savory finish. It's firm and lively at the end.
Vinous - 95
The 2022 Haut-Batailley is a potent, brooding wine. Black cherry, gravel, cured meat, spice and leather infuse the 2022 with tons of mineral and savory intensity, backed by a formidable spine of tannin that gives the wine shape and vertical thrust. I imagine the 2022 will need the better part of a decade to come into its own.
Wine Spectator - 94
Juicy and fresh, with a mix of red and black currant and cherry notes infused with an iris accent. Shows purity through the iron-tinged finish. An elegantly styled Pauillac that should age gracefully in the cellar. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
Decanter - 93
Ripe, dark bramble fruits, concentrated and intense on the nose and on the palate but with such juicy acidity. This is quite serious though, the fine but filling tannins have tension and give a sense of strictness to the palate which is nicely countered by the generous, fruity, juicy fruit profile. Well made, almost chewy but still cool and refreshing with blueberries, graphite, liquorice and tobacco edges. Nice and easy, but still intense with depth and cool minerality on the finish. 92 IPT. 3.73pH. Ageing 16 months, 65% new oak.
