Vinen er navngivet efter den mark, der leverer druerne til denne formidable topvin. Marken har altid været i familiens eje, lige siden opstarten helt tilbage i år 1435. Her kan man tale om historie.
Vinen er skabt af et blend bestående af Sangiovse og Merlot, og var blandt de første såkaldte "supertoscanere". Kompleksiteten er enorm med noter af mørk frugt, læder, krydderier og chokolade samt et diskret fadpræg. Man fornemmer tydeligt intensiteten og det toscanske ophav via andelen af Sangiovese, mens vinen også byder på en dejlig blød og rund frugt takket være andelen af Merlot.
Vinen lagres 18 måneder i franske egetræsfade, hvoraf 70 % er helt nye fade.
James Suckling - 97
Aromas of blackberries, black olives, lavender, violets and hints of oyster shells and iodine follow through to a medium body with fine, creamy tannins and a long and energetic finish. Linear and bright. Already showing nicely, but better in three or four years.
Vinous - 97
The 2023 Siepi is fabulous. Black cherry, plum, crème de cassis, incense, licorice, bittersweet chocolate and cloves soar form the glass. Even with all its intensity, the 2023 remains vibrant and beautifully poised. Sensual contours wrap it all together in style. Siepi is another wine that shows just how much these wines have moved in the direction of finesse over power. Sadly, yields are down 50% because of low fertility in the vineyard.
Decanter - 96
This single-vineyard blend of Sangiovese and Merlot offers bold, plummy black fruit scents with some menthol, spice, currants and chocolate. In the mouth it's poised, and vertical in shape. Plush black fruits and grilled herbs are accompanied by touches of spice and chocolate, and licks of iron and salt, with fine, chalky tannins and a silky mouthfeel. The minty acidity is persistent, leading into a long, delicate finish with some floral lift and just a hint of alcohol. Classy stuff.
