Druerne kommer fra en særlig af Mazzeis vinmarker, der ligger i en særlig varm subzone i Chianti, hvor jordbunden rigere og tykkere.
Det forplanter sig i den endelige vin, som er spækket med koncentreret og mørk frugt med markant strejf af egetræ. Vinen gæres først i egetræsfade inden 18 måneders lagring ligeledes i egetræ.
En stor og opulent rødvin lavet på 100% Sangiovse, hædret med fx. 97 point fra James Suckling.

The black cherry and plum aromas with hints of toasted oak and cedar are very attractive on the nose. Some dried flowers. Full-bodied with fine tannins and a powerful palate of al dente fruit, including cherry, citrus and mineral character. Chewy and structured yet fresh and crunchy. This is a well-structured Chianti Classico that needs at least three or four years to come together, but will improve with age for years ahead.

Now showing the Castelnuovo Berardenga UGA designation on the front label, the Mazzei 2021 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Castelnuovo Berardenga Castello di Fonterutoli Vicoregio 36 is a special project made with fruit from an experimental vineyard located in a warm subzone of the appellation with, generally speaking, thicker soils and more organic matter. These conditions give rise to a wine that is rich in concentration, dark fruit flavors and oak spice. The tannins are soft, and the wine is texturally rich for a Sangiovese. The style is contemporary for sure in this 13,200-bottle release.

The 2021 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vicoregio 36 is a mix of 36 Sangiovese clones vinified in barrel—the only of the three Gran Seleziones fermented in wood. Bright, vibrant and full of character, the 2021 bristles with energy. Beams of supporting tannin add to its focus. Crushed flowers, mint, spice, cedar, tobacco and slate are all beautifully sketched. Pretty floral top notes lift the finish. This is one of the very best editions of the 36 I can remember tasting.

A modern style, this Chianti Classico reveals ample black cherry, blackberry, mint and iron flavors wrapped in an embrace of toasty oak. Effortless and balanced yet shows density through the long, spicy aftertaste. Best from 2027 through 2042. 1,100 cases made, 110 cases imported.
