Topvin fra en af Barolos bedste og mest eftertragtede marker.
Cerequio hører til blandt den absolutte top af Cue'erne i Barolo, og vinene herfra er enormt eftertragtede blandt Barolo-elskere verden over.
Dette skyldes naturligvis den utrolige kvalitet i nebbiolo-druerne, som marken leverer, med sin sydvendte placering lidt udenfor landsbyen La Morra i Piemonte. Men samtidig er marken af en beskeden størrelse på omkring 16 hektar, så modsat andre eftertragtede cru'er såsom fx Cannubi, laves der ikke de store mængder vin fra Cerequio.
Heldigivs er Michele Chiarlo blandt de producenter, der laver vin herfra, og resultatet er intet mindre end enestående flot. Stilen er ultraklassisk med stor koncentration i frugten i samspil med en svævende elegance, man kun finder i de bedste Barolo-vine.
Vinen lagres 24 måneder i franske fade (tonneaux), og lagres derefter 15-16 måneder i flasken før frigivelse. Vinen besidder et ekstraordinært langt lagringspotentiale på op mod 30 år ved korrekt opbevaring. Tilgår man derimod vinen i dens ungdom anbefales det at ilte vinen godt inden der venter en Barolo-oplevelse i særklasse!

Restrained aromas of mint, minerals, cherry pits and dried violets. Full-bodied, firm and slightly dusty yet dense, with ripe, velvety tannins, refreshing acidity, amazing tension and a tight finish. Polished, with aging potential. Drink or hold.
Robert Parker - 94+
Showing the fundamental balance and intensity of the vintage, the Michele Chiarlo 2021 Barolo Cerequio does a good job of underlining the character of the grape and its environment. The aromas span a wide range, with cassis, orange peel, rose and toasted spice, without too much emphasis on any one of those elements. To the palate, the delivery is silky, polished and tight with finely knit tannins. This bottle has the qualities for a successful aging trajectory.
Vinous - 94
The 2021 Barolo Cerequio is redolent of black cherry, mocha, espresso, licorice, dried flowers and spice. As always, Chiarlo interprets Cerequio in a pretty rich, deep style. I find the 2021 to have plenty of those qualities, but with a bit more refinement and less heaviness than in the past. That's a very positive development in my view. There's a lot to like in this dramatic, ample Barolo.
Decanter - 94
The Chiarlo name is practically synonymous with Cerequio. Boasting a substantial 9ha in this revered MGA which straddles La Morra and Barolo, the family has produced a separate bottling since 1988. The 2021 starts out brightly, proposing red cherry, raspberry and rose. It uplifts before then grounding as it develops captivating earthy complexities of eucalyptus, ginger and ginseng. Similar duality plays out on the palate, where frisky acidity and a lightness in step belies sneaky density of raspberry and rhubarb. Fresh, chalky tannins cling in all the right places., while liquorice root and mint tea enhance the finish.
